Hi all.

I have a shiny new laptop but can no longer find a version of Punkbuster that will support BF1942.  Anybody know where I can get it?  Otherwise it's no more multi-player for me :(

ta.

Roger.

install battlefield on its own, then join a server and fingers crossed it will update itself slightly.

PB comes automatically on the 1942 disks (or the 1.6 patch)

regards

Thanks - I re-installed the game with punkbuster but now I get kicked and referred to evenbalance for an updated version of punkbuster, but the latest  version doesn't support BF 1942.  Help, it's crazy!!

no, punkbuster stopped updating Bf1942

so they kinda forgot that when people install bf1942 again on a new comp, they cant get a update

im not sure but i think 1 of our members had the same issue before and he solved it
so lets hope he reads this and gets his ass into working position :D

Exactly!  There was a period when you had to manually update Punkbuster to avoid being kicked, which I did on my old machine and it was fine.  But since I installed on my new machine (and used the 1.6 patch), BF42 is no longer supported at all by Punkbuster / evenbalance, I can no longer do this.  I'll see if I can PM Bonham.

Cheers.

if u are running ya computer on windows 7
try running it in xp mode for playing bf1942

also option of, copy ya files from ya old comp onto ya new comp
and overwrite the pb files that way
then it might work

or have a look at this http://evenbalance.com/downloads/bf2142/pbsec.htm

Thanks guys.

I've done as xfiles suggested and copied my pb folder from the old pc and that seems to have done the trick.  Maybe see you out there some time.

Cheers,
Rog

Late answer but as I have said to some others is that if u have pb and the game running correctly on your computer pb will update itself from our server.
This is due to the server is set up to distribute updates to the pb clients the same as that the now taken down master server was distributing updates to servers.

In case ur running windows vista or windows 7 you will need to run the game under compatibility mode windows xp and run the game in administrator mode.

How to update PunkBuster for Battlefield 1942 from Even Balance
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STEP 1 - Download
--------
Download pbsetup from Even Balance site (=> support => PBSETUP => "For All Windows Games").
Extract pbsetup.exe to a new folder "pbsetup" (without quotes). This new folder may be created anywhere you like.

STEP 2 - Install
--------
Run pbsetup.exe inside the folder "pbsetup".
To make sure everything was updated, click "Check for Updates" and wait until it finishes with success.
Now try to add your BF1942 by clicking on "Add a Game".
Try to locate "Battlefield 1942" in the dropdown list. No success! Keep cool. We will succeed later.
Close pbsetup.

STEP 3 - Edit
--------
Look inside the folder "pbsetup". There is a new file: pbgame.htm. This file was created while updating pbsetup.
We are going to edit pbgame.htm. Please get a decent editor like Notepad++ (free download from http://notepad-plus-plus.org/).
Open pbgame.htm with the editor.
Find this line (for Battlefield 2):

<p> game bf2 "Battlefield 2"

Insert the following line immediately before the line for bf2:

<p> game bf1942 "Battlefield 1942"

Find this other line (for BF2):

<p> game_os bf2 w l k

Insert this new line before the one for bf2:

<p> game_os bf1942 w l k

Find another line (for BF2):

<p> game_hint w bf2 "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE[SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\]@InstallDir"

Insert these 2 new lines before the one for bf2:

<p> game_hint w bf1942 "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE[SOFTWARE\EA Games\Battlefield 1942\]@GAMEDIR"
<p> game_hint w bf1942 "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 1942"

Save the file pbgame.htm and make a copy (for example: myBF1942_pbgame.htm) for safety.
NOTE: You will need this copy because your edited pbgame.htm will be overwritten each time you update!
If you don't make a copy, you'll have to edit pbgame.htm all over again.

STEP 4 - Update
--------
Let's run pbsetup.exe again.
Click on "Add a Game".
Select your game: "Battlefield 1942".
Verify that the game folder was found correctly in the field "Game Path". If not, click "Browse" and find folder "Battlefield 1942".
Click "Add Game" to finish adding BF1942.
Select BF1942 on the main screen of pbsetup and click "Check for Updates". The update will be done! :)

Now go and enjoy your BF1942 with a new and up to date PunkBuster.
